I would like to share this news article https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2016/01/12/mysterious-mass-deaths-of-alaskan-birds-baffles-scientists/ published in the Washington post earlier this year. Thousands of common murre, a seabird not too dissimilar from the black guillemot have mysteriously died in Alaska. It is likely that they starved to death. It is very worrying if this is indeed the case, many more birds (and mammals) my die, and... where has their food (e.g. herring) gone? Over fishing, climate change.. More research, conservation actions and possibly political sanctions are needed!
